You discover Newhouse Farm by going down narrow lanes and through a ford in the shadow of Beacon Fell. Goosnargh is a remarkable village known for its famous Goosnargh ducks and chickens and Goosnargh Cake sold at the local post office, as well at its cheese makers. Since 1923, three generations of Shorrocks have nurtured their Tasty Lancashire made with raw milk from their own Hillchapel pedigree Friesian herd. This was a mixed farm where cheese making was part of the farm's activities and the cheese room and store is a model of self sufficiency.

They hand make great 40lb cheeses which have seasonal variations of flavour from their meadow milk. The three day curd cheese is buttered or waxed and turned weekly to develop the flavour over six months. They also make the popular Black Beauties or Black Bombs. They take cheese from the large 40lb truckles and mould them into small cheeses in black wax, some with garlic & herb. Available from local cheese stores and at several farmers markets. You will find it listed as a local cheese in many pubs and restaurants.
